A look inside Purdue's aquaponic VR tour

As previously reported, the Food Safety Human Factor Lab in the Department of Food Science at Purdue University welcomed Indiana high school students to see its Aquaponic Virtual Reality (VR) Tour, created in collaboration with the When Blue is Green project. The activity introduced virtual reality as an innovative educational tool and a creative alternative to traditional in-person farm visits. Fourteen students explored the aquaponic system while learning key food safety concepts related to aquaponic farming.

In the below video, we get to see what those students saw in a demonstration of the Aquaponic VR Tour.

The goal of the When Blue is Green project is to increase local and regional production of seafood. To achieve this, we will research and develop an environmentally sustainable and economically viable food production system using aquaponics. We will also assess the economic and environmental performance of the system, engage with stakeholders, and create educational materials.
