U.S. scholars explore food science and sustainable farming on Malaysia field trip

Enhancing global experience and student capacity, seven scholars of Northern Marianas College's NextGen program recently completed its agrotourism and agricultural innovation experiential learning field trip in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia this July.

Seven scholars, from NextGen scholarship recipients to NMC students, were introduced and immersed in various food science facilities, with a dedicated focus on regenerative farming practices. The scholars were able to visit famous facilities known for their products within our local grocery stores and immerse themselves in hands-on food preparation practices at the Universiti Putra Malaysia.

Joining the seven scholars and two faculty from NMC were three scholars and one faculty from the University of Guam, and one student and two faculty members from the Tennessee State University.

In addition to these immersive experiences, the scholars were led through guided agricultural tours at various farms, including the Malaysian Agricultural Research and Development Institute Faculty of Agriculture, Malaysia Agro Exposition Park Serdang Agro Park and Cameron Highlands, GanoFarm Mushroom Farm, Ajinomoto Factory, and the Sime Darby Oil Palm Plantation.
