In a bid to bring together agriculture, industry, culture and literature on a single platform, the third edition of Kalamassery Agricultural Festival will be held at Chakkolas Ground from Aug 26 to Sept 2. Announcing the event at a news conference held in the city, industries minister P Rajeeve said the festival will be inaugurated by actor Prithviraj Sukumaran on Tuesday, August 19.
The celebrations will begin with a colourful cultural procession at 4pm starting from Kalamassery municipal office. The procession will feature people representing local panchayats, accompanied by traditional art forms and percussion ensembles, before culminating at the venue.According to the minister, a major attraction of the event will be the extensive agricultural and industrial exhibition.
This year's fair will feature 132 stalls displaying a wide range of products, including fresh farm produce, new crops introduced in Kalamassery, items from local value-addition units and modern farming equipment. Stalls will also showcase coir, bamboo, handloom goods and local rice varieties such as pokkali, Kadungalloor kuthari and kalanchi.
In the run-up to the main event, 18 seminars were held across the constituency on subjects such as paddy, millets, tuber crops, vegetables, mushroom farming, fisheries and dairy farming, where farmers, Kudumbashree units, resident associations and youth groups participated. A symbolic art form, Kadamban Moothan, also toured various parts of Kalamassery carrying the message of reviving Kerala's agricultural culture.
