Cambodia to promote ‘smart farms’ to boost vegetable production

The Cambodian Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF) will promote smart farming techniques to increase the production of vegetables across the Kingdom. This was revealed by Han Vanhon, Secretary of State at MAFF, as he carried out an inspection trip to the 'smart farms' located in Kien Svay district, Kandal province, on Tuesday.

The latest innovative practices to grow vegetables in the Kingdom include polyhouse farming, container farming, microgardening, vertical farming, hydroponics, intercropping, or even simply small-space gardening. He said more farmers must turn to 'smart farming' amid climate change, bringing huge challenges to the vegetable growers in the Kingdom.

"Climate changes are leading to huge variations in the seasonal yields of vegetables and crops, and we have to be innovative to address these issues," the Secretary of State highlighted.

The Secretary of State also visited the Banteay Dek Agriculture Research Station (BDARS) in Kandal province, where various types and agricultural research and innovation are being carried out across six hectares of agricultural land.
