From harvest to catwalk in four weeks

"The first garment made from cotton grown in the UK, made possible by vertical farming"

Gooddrop Ltd is marking the unveiling of the first garment made from cotton grown in the UK. The fibre was harvested at Gooddrop's research and development vertical farming facility at the University of Nottingham's Sutton Bonington campus during the week of 18 August 2025. From there, it moved rapidly through the textile supply chain, reaching the catwalk in just over four weeks. The speed of this process reflects Gooddrop's aim to build a traceable, regenerative, and local cotton system.

After harvesting in Sutton Bonington, the cotton was ginned by hand at Gooddrop's offices in Hull the following week. It was then spun at Rieter AG in Winterthur, Switzerland. In the next stage, it was woven at Getzner Textil in Bludenz, Austria. By the week of 15 September, the fabric was finished and sewn at the TAMMAM atelier in London. It made its catwalk debut in London on 21 September.

The resulting fabric is raw, unbleached, and fully compostable. Gooddrop describes it as a prototype for closed-loop textile economies designed for future use.

Simon Wardle, CEO and co-founder of Gooddrop Ltd, said: "This is a turning point for cotton. For centuries, the UK has imported fibre at vast environmental and social cost. With these three years of development culminating in this moment, we've proven it can be grown here, sustainably. We're showing what's possible when you reimagine cotton supply chains for the 21st century."

To present the fabric, Gooddrop collaborated with the sustainable couture label TAMMAM, which transformed it into a single garment. The piece was shown on the runway in London, highlighting how the innovation could influence the fashion supply chain.

Lucy Tammam, founder of TAMMAM, said: "Fashion has the power to tell stories of change. By bringing Gooddrop's cotton to the runway so quickly, we're proving beauty and sustainability can exist hand in hand — and inspiring a future where couture and conscience align."

The unveiling represents the first garment made from cotton grown in the UK, made possible by vertical farming and an emphasis on regenerative fashion.
