US: Penn State University to offer hydroponics webinars

Penn State Extension will offer a five-week webinar series titled Basics of Hydroponic Production every Wednesday from February 18 through March 18, 2026, from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. EST. This lunchtime series is designed to introduce participants to the core principles of growing vegetables without soil. Key topics include hydroponic systems, lighting, climate control, nutrient and water quality management, insect and disease management, microgreens, and food safety.

Leafy greens will be the primary focus of the series, reflecting their popularity and suitability for hydroponic production. However, tomato and strawberry production will also be discussed to provide participants with broader exposure to fruiting crops commonly grown in soilless systems. Participants will learn from university faculty and Extension educators with experience in controlled environment agriculture and hydroponic production systems.

Hydroponics can be learned and enjoyed by a wide range of people, from those growing food for personal use to growers producing crops for profit. While this series is designed primarily for individuals interested in commercial or income-generating production, anyone interested in learning the basics of hydroponic vegetable production will benefit. All sessions will be recorded, and registrants will receive access to the recordings for up to six months.
