Yeongyang County in North Gyeongsang Province said it will apply data-driven farming technology through a proposed open-field smart agriculture development zone project aimed at boosting productivity and stabilizing farm management. The county said it held a resident briefing Monday at the county office to explain its bid for the 2026 Open-Field Smart Agriculture Development Zone Project.
Officials said the briefing was intended to outline the project's goals and direction and to build local understanding as farms face challenges tied to climate change, a shrinking rural workforce and rising production costs.
The county said the plan is a three-year project from 2026 through 2028 with a total budget of 9.5 billion won ($6.6 million). The county said key components include building a smart farming foundation, introducing field solutions and strengthening technical capacity. Planned solutions include agricultural water development, irrigation and fertilizer control systems, data transmission infrastructure and the use of autonomous tractors and drone sprayers.
The briefing covered project details, implementation procedures and the expected timeline. It also included a question-and-answer session to gather feedback from farmers, the county said.
