BASF Nunhems and LetsGrow.com strengthen collaboration with data-driven cultivation strategies

"We translate our variety knowledge into steering based on clear objectives"

Since 2025, BASF Nunhems and LetsGrow.com have been working closely together to support growers more effectively in defining and executing their crop strategies. BASF Nunhems has long provided growers with variety advice and cultivation expertise. Through the collaboration with LetsGrow.com, this support is being expanded with data-driven insights and clear target values, tailored to the crop, greenhouse and local conditions.

Growers are continuously looking for ways to improve their cultivation results compared with previous seasons. In this process, the Strategy Manager from LetsGrow.com plays a central role. Together with sales and crop specialists, they visit the grower at the start of the season to develop a customised crop plan. This plan includes concrete cultivation choices and climate targets, which serve as a basis for both planning and adjustments throughout the season.

Harm Ammerlaan, Crop Lead High-tech Crops at BASF Nunhems, explains: "We translate our variety knowledge into steering based on clear objectives, aligned with the grower's practical situation."

By combining BASF Nunhems' crop data with the LetsGrow.com growth model, expected fruit weight becomes visible, allowing the strategy to be refined when results deviate from the desired specifications. For growers who have previously cultivated the variety, historical greenhouse data can be used. For new growers, a plant profile provides a solid starting point, including alignment with local weather influences.

The strategy is not an endpoint, but a starting point. Growers are supported throughout the season and often learn in groups with other growers cultivating the same variety. This approach helps translate insights more quickly into concrete optimisations in the greenhouse.
Winny van Adrichem–van Heijningen, Business Development Manager at LetsGrow.com, says: "With Strategy Manager, grower and advisor work from a single plan – from the initial strategy through to adjustments during the season."

Initial results show improvements at multiple locations compared with the previous year. The approach was first applied in lit Vitalion and Showvine crops, under the guidance of crop specialists Marcel van Kester and Frans Goud. The first international growers have also joined via the LetsGrow.com platform, accelerating knowledge sharing between regions.

The collaboration is being presented at Fruit Logistica in Berlin, where the BASF Nunhems team is present at the LetsGrow.com stand (Hall 3.2 | D-32).
