From January 31 – February 4, 2027 the Belgian city of Ghent will play host to the 4th International Workshop on Vertical Farming. This workshop brings together researchers, growers, operators, innovators, industry leaders, and policymakers to exchange knowledge, share ideas, and foster new collaborations. With talks and panel discussions the workshop will explore the state of the art and future directions of vertical farming.

Prof. Dr. Leo Marcelis will act as the keynote speaker for the event. Professor Marcelis is an expert in plant physiology, crop monitoring, computational modelling and experimentation. His research focuses on sustainable production of high-quality products in vertical farms and greenhouses in which LED lighting is a major theme.
A second announced keynote speaker is Prof. Dr. In-Bok Lee from Seoul National University. Professor Lee has knowledge in aerodynamics and energy engineering in agriculture. His major research fields are HVAC of agricultural buildings, such as greenhouses and vertical farms, atmospheric dispersion, energy saving and renewable energy. He is implementing various cutting-edge technologies such as machine learning/deep learning, virtual reality (VR), and digital twins (DT), and is recently actively conducting research on urban agriculture and space agriculture.
