Sharjah Children, in the UAE city Sharjah, organized a Hydroponics program, which was launched last September, and will continue until the end of this year. The program focuses on educating children about alternative agricultural technology that integrates the cultivation of plants and aquaculture, including fish and other aquatic animals, in a soil-free environment, to grow vegetables in special ponds and feed them through fish waste to produce organic products.
The program includes various workshops dealing with theoretical and practical aspects of hydroponics technology in homes, where children learn about the most important steps and materials used in them.
They are also trained on how to complete the agricultural process and methods of packaging products to maintain their quality and freshness. The workshops apply the alternative technology of farming in their homes by building their own hydroponic farms.
Through this program, Sharjah Children aims to educate children about the sustainable environment between fish and plants and to introduce them to these types of plants and how they grow throughout the year, in addition to spreading the culture of hydroponics.
