A roof garden is coming to Tilburg. It will be called Rooftop Rumour. It will be a place where restaurants and events will converge and where fruit and vegetables will be grown. Entrepreneur Mirjam Slob's green project will be located on the roof of KOOPman clothing shop on Heuvelstraat as of next year and will cover 3,000 square meters.
The project started in May 2020. The first funding has already been granted. The municipality of Tilburg has granted a sum of € 380,000 from the Climate Fund to finance half of the garden.
The garden, which is to produce fruit and vegetables, will also help to combat heat stress, increase the greenery and biodiversity of the inner city, contribute to awareness about the climate transition and serve as an example for similar initiatives and policies. Mirjam on the project website: "Building owner Wereldhave has had the guts to make their roof available, and now that the municipality of Tilburg has made a commitment from the Climate Fund, the project has received an enormous positive impulse. I am grateful to Wereldhave and the municipality of Tilburg for this."
An important first step in the financing has thus been taken. But it is not yet complete. Mirjam: "I am still looking for substantive partners and the main sponsor. Discussions are being held with various organizations. There is plenty of room for parties who see a substantive connection to get involved." The roof garden hopes to raise the remaining part of the funding through crowdfunding. More will be made clear about this later this year.
