China: New fodder tower introduced

In a plant of a biotechnology company in Ma'anshan city, east China's Anhui Province, forage grass here does not grow on land but in a spiral "tower."

This tower is more than 10 meters high and covered with LED lights.  The independently developed system uses artificial light to promote growth of forage grass, which will be fully grown within 7 days, while its natural growth cycle is about 25 days.

This tower covers an area of less than 30m2, and is not influenced by seasonal or climatic conditions. The grass will be provided for cattle, sheep, horses and other livestock.

The technology of light supplementation system for plants has been successfully applied in the cultivation of forage grass, vegetables and fruits, making modern agricultural production simpler, cleaner, and more automated.
