AmplifiedAg introduces vertical propagation to its indoor agriculture platform

AmplifiedAg announced the official release of its vertical propagation system, AmpVPS. The modular system provides growers across all
agricultural specialties, the ability to capitalize upon high-density tech-enabled propagation by insourcing the nursery function for reliable production and increasing the versatility and viability of seedlings.

AmpVPS is a purpose-built, turnkey vertical propagation system. Each 320-square-foot unit can develop over 100,000 seedlings and maximizes the germination rate, and escalates growth for any type of plant. The modular system allows growers to operate a single AmpVPS unit or increase scale by operating multiple interconnected units, all controlled by the AmplifiedAg software platform and integrated hardware systems.

“We are excited to bring our high-density vertical propagation system to market and believe that AmpVPS will deliver considerable value for all types of growers, from indoor to field-farm operators to floriculture and beyond,” said David Flynn, General Manager of AmplifiedAg. “We
have spent years innovating on the modular and scalable system and look forward to helping the industry improve propagation efficiency.”

The precision-controlled environments offer 24/7 cloud-based monitoring, automation, and real-time alerts for on-site or remote management, creating optimal control and risk mitigation.
The propagation system includes a closed loop irrigation and fertigation system with optimized nutrient dosing, EC, and pH balance; dynamic HVAC control with VPD-based logic, airflow, temperature, and CO2 supplementation; and proprietary full spectrum LED lighting across 16 sections.

AmpVPS supports all growing mediums for hydroponic or field/soil transplanting and can effectively propagate from seeds, cuttings, rootstock, tissue culture, and more. From fruits and vegetables to cannabis, ornamentals, and trees, the system is widely versatile to cultivate any variety of plant seedlings for any growing application.

While a new product for commercialization, the propagation system has been deployed for more than five years by AmplifiedAg for its farming operations and crop R&D.

According to Matt Daniels, Chief Horticulturist with AmplifiedAg, “We’ve been operating our own high-volume production farms with the AmpVPS technology for many years, and rely on its performance to consistently produce well-established seedlings with strong lateral roots and mass for successful transplanting and healthy, mature plant growth. The propagation technology is also key to our R&D efforts through which we’ve evaluated specialty crops and perennials, including a wide range of leafy greens, culinary herbs, tomatoes, berries, ornamental plants, and even Loblolly pine trees.”

“From our own growing experience, I can confidently say that our turnkey system will evolve plant production and profit margins for growers in a variety of ways. The systems will help them
extend seasonality, reduce plant mortality or seedling loss, and expand crop varieties.”

Like all AmplifiedAg farms, AmpVPS units are constructed from upcycled insulated shipping containers and designed to easily and effectively integrate with existing container farms, vertical farms, greenhouses, or field farms for enterprise production, as well as educational institutions and research labs.

AmpVPS technology is currently operational with a handful of the company’s technology customers, the USDA-ARS for its CEA Center of Excellence, and its own R&D center and Vertical Roots production farms.
