Finnish researchers develop a nanorobot for pollination

Researchers at Tampere University in Finland have developed Flying Aero-robots based on the Light Responsive Materials Assembly (FAIRY). This microscopic, lightweight, skeleton-free nanorobot is designed to pollinate areas where there are no insect pollinators.

The researchers published their project in the Advanced Science journal on December 27th, 2022. The prototype is a soft robot that can move in response to environmental stimuli, particularly wind. It is controlled by light.

"The actuator consists of a light-sensitive liquid-crystal elastomer that induces hair opening or closing actions by excitation of visible light," explains Hao Zeng, one of the team's researchers.
