Seventh-grade science teacher Eric Caddey invited the students to be the first to work with the garden after they showed interest in the project.

When asked about his previous experience, student Freddy Steele mentioned gardening in the back yard with his grandfather when he was younger, along with his interest in science.

"It's fun. We've been able to grow lettuce in rotation," he explains. The hydroponic garden not only teaches students about science and agriculture, but also prepares them for the future of farming.
