Following its latest funding round, Swedish vertical farming company Green City Farming is preparing for international expansion with a scalable, ready-to-deploy system. The company's next step is a pilot farm in Helsingborg, developed in partnership with a major food industry player.
"Helsingborg is a strategic location and logistics hub," says Robert Carlsson, CEO of Green City Farming. "We're developing the site in collaboration with a major food industry partner established across Sweden and Europe. The goal is to co-develop a scalable model that can be rolled out across multiple regions through local partners."
Growth at home sets the stage for expansion
The company currently operates a 2,000-square-meter facility in Gothenburg, where production is running at 20 percent capacity. With infrastructure already in place to support increased output, Green City Farming is now focused on building demand and scaling both domestically and internationally.
"We're aiming to reach break-even by selling 100 percent of the output from our current capacity," Carlsson explains. "That will be sufficient to prove that our turnkey vertical farm solution is financially sustainable and commercially viable, without needing to scale production or expand R&D further."© Vertical Greens
European and U.S. partnerships in progress
The company is in advanced discussions with potential partners in Spain, Italy, and the Netherlands, with early-stage talks underway in the United States. Green City Farming expects to launch at least one international collaboration in 2026.
"We're seeking partners who bring more than capital. Ideally they possess strong local knowledge, market access, and infrastructure," Carlsson adds. To support its expansion plans, the company is preparing a SEK 30–40 million capital raise for early 2026. A smaller bridge financing round of €500,000 is already underway, with €150,000 raised to date.
Turnkey system designed for rapid, adaptable scaling
Turnkey vertical farming systems are designed to simplify the operational complexity often associated with controlled environment agriculture. By providing standardized, ready-to-deploy solutions, Green City Farming aims to lower the barriers to entry for growers while ensuring production can be tailored to local conditions.
"Our long-term vision is to sell our turnkey vertical farming solution through strategic partners and directly to farmers," says Carlsson. "Rather than owning and operating all farms ourselves, we want to enable others to succeed using a proven, ready-to-deploy model. Financially, our low-CAPEX setup and focus on reaching profitability early set us apart. This approach supports rapid, capital-efficient scaling while giving our partners the flexibility to adapt to regional needs." © Green City Farming
