Back in June, Hyundai Motor Group Innovation Center Singapore (HMGICS) launched its Smart Food Lab, a new sensory workshop designed to engage children and their families in discovering the origins and innovations behind the foods they eat. This program, which will run until the end of September, is an add-on to the existing complimentary Discovery Tour, where families can also enjoy experiences such as Smart Farm harvesting and tasting.
Building on these experiences, the Smart Food Lab invites children aged 3 to 6 to embark on a hands-on, sensory-led exploration of food grown in modern, technology-assisted environments. In today's fast-paced urban settings, many children miss opportunities to understand where their food comes from. The Smart Food Lab aims to bridge this gap by encouraging young participants to connect the meals on their plates with nature, the environment, cultural practices, and advanced farming technologies.

In 60-minute sessions held every Saturday and Sunday from 10:00am to 11:00am and 4:00pm to 5:00pm, starting 21 June 2025, children and their accompanying parent or guardian began to take part in a series of guided activities exploring food through sight, sound, smell, touch, and taste.
The Smart Food Lab was designed to support healthy child development: it encourages curiosity, builds sensory awareness, nurtures a willingness to try new foods, and helps children develop an appreciation for sustainable and innovative food production methods. The workshop also promotes social skills and environmental responsibility by inviting children and caregivers to share observations and listen to different perspectives in a safe, inclusive environment.

Dr. Hyun Sung Park, CEO of HMGICS, said, "At HMGICS, we believe in nurturing curiosity and creativity from a young age. The Smart Food Lab offers children a unique opportunity to engage with food in a fun and educational way, connecting technology with nature and culture. We hope this experience will inspire the next generation to appreciate innovative, sustainable food practices and spark their interest in science and technology."
The program is running until the 28th of September. Interested parties can register at the link here.
