India: Himachal Pradesh university launches hydroponics training

Chaudhary Sarwan Kumar Himachal Pradesh Krishi Vishvavidyalaya's (CSKHPKV) Vice-Chancellor Professor Naveen Kumar, inaugurated a training program on "Hydroponics for Sustainable Vegetable Farming and Entrepreneurial Opportunities" under an adhoc project funded by the Rashtriya Krishi VikasYojna (RKVY).

The training, organized by the Department of Vegetable Science and Floriculture, aims to promote innovative and sustainable farming practices among farmers. Speaking on the occasion, Prof Kumar emphasized the importance of hydroponics in ensuring year-round vegetable production, conserving resources and creating entrepreneurial opportunities for youth and progressive farmers.

The program was conducted under the guidance of Prof Desh Raj Chaudhary, HoD, and Prof Parveen Sharma, Principal Investigator, along with his team, and provided hands-on training to 20 farmers on the techniques of hydroponic vegetable cultivation.

Participants were also given the opportunity to interact with Ankit Kumar, a PhD scholar working on hydroponics under Dr Sharma's supervision, who shared practical insights from his ongoing research. The farmers actively participated in the sessions and expressed keen interest in adopting hydroponic methods for sustainable and profitable vegetable farming.
