The Cebu City Government marked a milestone in urban agriculture with the first harvest of hydroponics-grown vegetables from the City Hall greenhouse.
"The project aims to serve as a model for barangay and community-based gardens, particularly in areas with limited space for traditional farming," said Archival. He said this forms part of Cebu City's broader program to integrate urban agriculture, waste management, and green technology in local development.
Mayor Archival, Vice Mayor Tommy OsmeƱa, and other city officials led the activity, highlighting the city's continuing efforts to promote sustainable food production, environmental stewardship, and healthier lifestyles for residents.
The City Hall greenhouse uses a hydroponics system that grows vegetables without soil through nutrient-rich water circulation. It also employs drip irrigation and controlled lighting, allowing for efficient resource use and consistent crop quality.
