The 'Semai Inklusif' (Inclusive Seeding) program empowers persons with disabilities (OKU) community in Sarawak to acquire resilient urban farming skills through hands-on training and a structured, supportive learning environment.
The initiative, carried out under the APPGM-SDG in collaboration with the Sarawak CSO-SDG Alliance and the Sarawak Disabled Skills Development Association (SOSDA), focuses on building both agricultural knowledge and personal development among participants.
SOSDA programme lead, Dunstan, who oversees the training, said the project aims to equip participants with practical farming skills ranging from seed sowing to harvesting, while fostering confidence and independence.
"When we give people the right tools and the right support, they grow in every way — not just as farmers, but as individuals. That is what 'Semai Inklusif' is all about," he said. Participants, including those with no prior farming experience, learn to cultivate microgreens, and practise urban farming techniques using grow lights and indoor tools.
