Urban Greens in Kampala is demonstrating how hydroponic and aquaponic systems can turn small urban spaces into productive farms. The company installs compact systems for growers across the city, enabling them to produce leafy greens, herbs, and other crops using nutrient-rich water instead of soil.
Founder Peter Hausman explains how the model combines technical support, input supply, and produce aggregation to help growers recover their investment within roughly 13 to 18 months. As Kampala's population continues to expand, the initiative highlights how urban farming could contribute to safer food production and new income opportunities.
