South Korea selects first "forest smart farm demonstration complex"

Yeongyang-gun, Gyeongsangbuk-do, has been selected as the nation's first "forest smart farm demonstration complex," leading the high-tech forestry industry.

Gyeongsangbuk-do Province announced on the 25th that Yeongyang-gun was finally selected in the "Project to Create a Forest Smart Farm Demonstration Complex" organized by the Korea Forest Service.

This project aims to dramatically increase the productivity and quality of forest products by introducing smart forestry that combines ICT and digital technologies. Through this, the purpose is to build a new industrial ecosystem centered on young forestry people. A total of 10.5 billion won will be invested in this project for three years from this year to 2028, laying a systematic basis for demonstration from design to operation.

The wild vegetables that Yeongyang-gun put forward as a strategic item are "Eosuri." Assury is already known as a high value-added crop that has demonstrated both economic and growth potential. As a result of the facility cultivation demonstration, the yield is about five times higher than that of outdoor cultivation, and it generates 5.7 times higher income compared to existing facility horticultural crops such as strawberries and lettuce. This is a symbolic achievement that shows that forest products are sufficiently competitive as a high-income industry in the future.
