From empty gym to urban farm

Blue Way Hydroponics has converted an unused gym inside a villa compound into a fully functional indoor hydroponic farm, with early results already demonstrating the viability of the setup. What was once an empty indoor space is now producing fresh, clean, and high-quality food directly at the point of consumption.

The installation features a vertical NFT (Nutrient Film Technique) system with a capacity of 150 plants, complemented by a grow slab gutter system accommodating 15 vine crop plants. The entire environment is managed under LED grow lights in a fully controlled setting. Current crops include iceberg lettuce, leafy lettuce, and chard in the NFT system, while tomatoes and cucumbers are thriving in the grow slabs.

The project highlights how controlled environment agriculture can unlock the potential of underutilized indoor spaces, bringing food production closer to the end consumer while reducing water use and eliminating the need for soil. Blue Way Hydroponics sees this installation as a compelling example of what is possible in urban farming when precision and sustainability are prioritized.

Looking ahead, the company is focused on optimizing the current system while exploring how similar setups can be rolled out across homes, restaurants, and commercial spaces throughout the UAE, making hyper-local food production an increasingly practical reality.
