Linde Gas AB:

Providing carbon dioxide and oxygen to indoor farms and greenhouses

“Through our network of production sites and selected sources, we can guarantee a reliable and sustainable supply of carbon dioxide and oxygen,” says Peter Jansson, Head of Business Segment Food of Linde Europe North, an international industrial gases supplier.

Linde’s gases are used across virtually all industries, including the horticultural industry for carbon dioxide enrichment and oxygenation of irrigation water. In addition to the provision of gases, Linde offers the installations services for these products, as well as safety systems and technical support related to the gas distribution system and the usage of gases.

Liquid carbon dioxide for CEA
Carbon dioxide enrichment is done throughout controlled environment agriculture, whether in greenhouses or indoor cultivation facilities. According to Linde, its liquid carbon dioxide offers multiple advantages to growers such as purity of product, reduced crop damage, better control of CO2 levels, and the flexibility to introduce carbon dioxide within the canopy at any time.

“By controlling the atmosphere in the cultivation area and enriching with carbon dioxide, the yield can be increased by up to 30%, depending on the crop. With carbon dioxide and oxygen enrichment, we see increased product quality, higher yield, and improved resistance to diseases,” says Peter Jansson.

Sustainability leading the way
With consumers increasingly interested in local food production, Linde has witnessed an increased interest in its products from the vertical farming industry, whose high initial investments make it critical to achieve the highest possible yield per m2.

Linde places a strong focus on sustainability by selecting sustainable sources and ensuring that the production methods and transportation are done as sustainably as possible. As Peter Jansson notes, the use of carbon dioxide and oxygen can reduce the need for other agricultural inputs which pose a threat to the environment.

“We work together with our customers to support them in making their production more efficient and sustainable,” says Peter Jansson.
