On April 26, 16 local farms and agricultural businesses opened their doors to the public for Open Farm Day. In connection with the Cornell Cooperative Extension of Broome County, farms in the area gave tours, complete with activities, demonstrations and samples for visitors to enjoy.
Big Yield Growers, an Endicott indoor farm that utilizes vertical growth, was among the participants. 12 News spoke with the Manager of Big Yield Growers, Beth Blakeney, about educating others.
"We love educating people on what we do and how we do it," said Blakeney. "We hope to encourage other people to be able to go out there and grow their own product and not be as intimidated of growing their own garden."
Those involved hoped that the day would better educate the rest of the community about the wonders of farming.
