Hort Americas to host vertical farming short course on key production variables

Hort Americas will host a two-hour online short course this Friday, April 24, 2025, designed to help vertical farm operators and growers gain control over the critical variables that drive maximum yield in controlled environment agriculture.

Taking place via Zoom from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. (Central), the session will be led by Karla Garcia, technical service specialist and consultant at Hort Americas. Priced at $50, the course offers practical, expert-led instruction across four core topic areas.

Participants will explore hydroponic system selection, examining the most effective growing systems for plant factory production and identifying the right fit for their specific operation. The course also covers artificial lighting fundamentals, including light quality and quantity, and how to calculate optimal lighting configurations for vertical farming systems.

On the environmental side, attendees will learn to manage airflow, gas exchange, temperature and humidity to achieve consistent, high-performing crops. The session rounds out with crop-specific guidance on leafy greens production, covering lettuce, herbs and microgreens within indoor vertical systems.

The short course is suited to growers, farm managers and industry professionals looking to sharpen their technical knowledge and improve production outcomes. Registration is available through Hort Americas.
